Immigration and Citizenship Information Fair and Pro Bono Naturalization Clinic

The AABF, in conjunction with the Asian American Bar Association of Houston (AABA), Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, OCA-Houston, Catholic Charities, Boat People SOS, and VN Teamwork, co-sponsored an immigration and citizenship information fair and pro bono naturalization clinic at the American First National Bank in Chinatown. The panel discussion and clinic were free and open to the public, who were able to learn about general immigration matters, the naturalization process, naturalization eligibility, English and citizenship testing, and the rights and duties of citizenship. Attendees asked questions about the N-400 Naturalization Form, employment-based immigration, family-based immigration, and learned about the community services provided by sponsoring organizations at their information booths. Our volunteers served over 25 individuals, answering questions about naturalization and other immigration issues and helping to complete naturalization applications. Special thanks to David N. Chang, AABA Vice President of Community Relations, our panel of speakers, Gary Ilagan, Tina Nguyen, and Rosa Ramirez, and all of our hardworking volunteers and translators for spending a Saturday providing this much-needed service to the Asian American community.

Dim Sum with the Judiciary

In celebration of Asian American Heritage Month, the AABF and AABA of Houston hosted a special Dim Sum with the Judiciary at Fung’s Kitchen near Chinatown. Several members of the local judiciary were in attendance, and all proceeds of the event benefited the Asian American Bar Foundation. Special thanks to The Lanier Law Firm, who generously underwrote the festive occasion.

Wills Clinic

The AABF was proud to partner with the AABA, Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, VN Teamwork, and Boat People SOS on the 2010 Wills Clinic. This annual event, held at the VN Teamwork Center, provided pro bono preparation of Wills, Medical Powers of Attorney, Directives to Physicians, HIPAA Releases, and Declarations of Guardianship for qualified clients. Thank you to all of the attorney volunteers – this event would not have been possible without your participation.
